Where Your Junk Goes After We Haul It Away

Every other page here is about getting a load onto the truck. This one is about what happens to it afterwards, which is the part almost nobody publishes.

The order it happens in

How a Load Gets Split

Four steps, and the first one happens while the crew is still on your property. Nothing is tipped in one go, and no stream is skipped because it would have meant an extra stop on the way back.

  1. 01

    Sorted on the truck

The split starts in your driveway, not at a facility gate. Anything sound enough to be used again is loaded where it can come off first, and anything with its own disposal route is kept clear of the general pile.

  2. 02

    Reuse before recovery

A working sofa is worth more to a household than to a furnace, so charities and reuse stores get looked at before a recycler does. Tell us at the quote if a particular piece should go that way and the crew sets it aside.

  3. 03

    Recovery before disposal

Metal, cardboard, clean untreated wood, electronics, batteries and clean vegetation each have a handler that takes that material. None of them ride in a mixed load to save a stop.

  4. 04

    The county system last

Whatever is left after the first three reaches the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, weighed and ticketed at the scale on every trip. That is also why dense loads price higher: the county charges by the ton.

Where Your Junk Goes After We Haul It Away

A load never gets tipped in one go. Every truck splits into 3 streams before anything reaches a disposal gate, and you see none of it. This is what JR Largo does with your things once the tailgate closes.

  • 01

    Donated

Sound furniture, appliances that still run, tools, bikes, kitchenware and unopened household goods. These reach local charities and reuse stores before any other option gets looked at. A working sofa is worth far more to a Largo family than to a furnace.

    • Sorted on the truck, not at the tip
    • Ask at the quote and we will route a specific item
    • Nothing broken or mildewed is passed off as usable
  • 02

    Recycled

Scrap metal and appliance shells reach a metal recycler. Cardboard and clean untreated wood go for recovery. Televisions, monitors, computers and batteries reach an electronic waste handler instead of a mixed load. Clean vegetation gets mulched or composted.

    • Screens and batteries never ride in a mixed load
    • Refrigerant recovered from sealed cooling units
    • Green waste kept separate from construction debris
  • 03

Disposed of Through the County System

Only the finished pieces reach the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex on 114th Avenue North. Much of the processable trash there is handled at the county waste-to-energy plant, and the rest, along with the ash, is disposed of at Bridgeway Acres. Either way it is weighed, ticketed and handled the way the county requires.

    • Weighed and ticketed at the county scale on every trip
    • Dense material priced by weight because the county charges by the ton
    • Household hazardous waste never enters the load

Want something to go to a charity rather than a facility?

Say so at the quote and the crew sets that item aside on the truck. The routing costs nothing extra and takes no longer. The only items we cannot route anywhere sit on the what we can't take list.

The one exception

What Never Enters a Load

Household hazardous waste has no stream here, because no hauler in Florida may put it in a general load. Pinellas County takes all of it free from residents at two drop-off sites.

Paint, solvents, motor oil, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane, batteries and asbestos

The full list, what counts as each category and where the county drop-off sites are, all sit on one page.
